As Democratic “leaders” like Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA), Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY), Mayor Bill de Blasio (D-NY), Mayor Jacob Frey (D-MN), Mayor Muriel Bowser (D-D.C), Governor Tom Wolf (D-PA) and others refuse to use their authority to squash the violent protests, leftists and the liberal media have somehow managed to shift the blame onto the President, with some going as far to suggest he hid in his bunker while American cities burned down.
Before an explanation of how the President can intervene is given, let us state the obvious.
Rioters in D.C. injured more than 60 secret service members.
Rioters in D.C. set fire to Lafayette Park directly across from the White House.
Rioters in D.C. set St. John’s Episcopal church on fire next to the White House.
Rioters pushed through White House security blockades, with shouts to kill the President.
The President does not make the decision when to go to the bunker. That is a decision left up to his security team.
At a time when police aren’t doing their job, when Secret Service agents can’t even protect themselves, and when angry protesters are actively trying to break into the White House, then the President must evacuate. That is not a decision made lightly. It is a decision made based on the above.
Now, onto the President’s response.
CNN reports “Trump said Monday that if governors did not act to his liking, he would call up the military”.
What Trump actually said was “if the city or state refuses to take the actions that are necessary to defend the life and property of their residence, then I will deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem for them.”
Contrary to what CNN is fabricating, the President’s comments do not insinuate that he will arbitrarily use military force because he doesn’t agree with the Governors. His comments reflect the nation’s deep desire to prevent further destruction of these cities. What governor or other elected official, namely those mentioned above, wouldn’t want to suppress the violence?
The only communities being pillaged are minority majority communities.
Black communities are not disposable, so why are Democratic leaders treating them as such? Where is the Democratic leadership outrage over the loss of black jobs, black owned businesses, black homes? Are Democrats signaling they don’t care enough about these communities to use their authority to quell the violence and promote peaceful protests?
This leads us to the Insurrection Act of 1807, which authorizes the President to use military forces to deal with an insurrection or civil disturbances. George H.W. Bush invoked the act via an executive order in 1992 during the Rodney King Riots, not because of disdain for peaceful protests, but because the violence overshadowed the calls for justice and America watched California burn.
Usually federal troops are not allowed to be used to enforce domestic policy within the United States. However, this act allows mobilization of the forces and allows the National Guard to be federalized.
At a time when America is burning, the President must invoke this act.
On the other hand, leftists have begun circulating an image that in essence says ‘when America was on fire, the President hid in his bunker’ in an effort to insinuate the President cannot handle what’s happening.
False.
The President is rightly giving all state and local agencies the opportunity to do their duties as elected officials without federal government interference. Involving the federal government in matters like this is exceptionally tricky and can easily lead us down a slippery slope where the President suddenly gets to command everything. This is not how the Founders intended for things to be, and that is exactly why the President has shown great restraint in not exercising executive authority so fast.
However, with riots now entering the second week, the President has every right to step in and ensure every American is safe since Democrats clearly are unable to do the same.
When November rolls around, the liberal media will try to convince us that the President abandoned us when we needed him most.
I urge every voter, Democrat and Republican, to remember the Ferguson Riots began August 9th and did not end until August 25. Then President Obama did not intervene. Did he abandon us too? Because if he did the media sure didn’t tell us!
